Smith Street Funday Sunday Smith Street
Sunday, June 23 2013
11 am to 6pm

Tired of the same old, same old Street Fairs? Ours is really different. You will find great vibes, smiling faces, and lots of unique and beautiful things you will really want to buy and take home,. The crafters and independent designers call our event a “show”. In their parlance that is a huge compliment. No tube socks, no sheet sets ..we promise, you will not be disappointed. What you will see is the perfect mix of indulgences and creativity.

And the food … Smith Street is well known as a ”foodie” street with over 70 places to dine & drink. Arrive hungry!! What more can we say.

Our local neighborhoods of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Gowanus are filled with talented people. Many of those who are musically inclined will be entertaining you along the way - Tony’s Hardware will have their famous Salsa Band, Mingo of the Musicians General Store is having a stage and , BOCOCA Arts will be at Ceol Pub, Angry Wades will have its mix of favorites and Union Grounds is joining the list with their own repertoire of music and fun.

So spend some time with us from noon to 6PM and see how these Brooklyn neighborhoods can still “Do it Right”!!! 8 blocks on Smith Street from Bergen to Union.

The Smith Street Soup Festival is one of the nicest events in the neighborhood. Now in its third year, the list of participating eateries which will contribute their own special soups on that day is getting longer.
Every year, it draws huge crowds, so come early.

From the organizer, Bette Stoltz of South Brooklyn Local Development Corporations (SBLDC):
It’s getting colder – winter is coming. It’s time to start thinking soup!! Help us to give soup the respect it is due on the menus of New York!!   And it's all for a good cause-South Brooklyn LDC shares this fundraise with a culinary arts program we help support at our local public high school, The School For International Studies.Unlike most courses where a text book or two per student is the semester expense, food, the raw ingredients for this course are far more costly and our soup festival helps meet the needs.
For your tasting pleasure- 4 oz soup samples are from:
Lunetta,   Bar Tabac,   Coco Roco,   Cibao,   Ceol,   Hop Hap,   The H.S. for Int’l Studies,   Angry Wades,   Jolie Cantina,   Peoples Republic of Brooklyn,   Oaxaca,   Shelsky’s Smoked Fish,   Bombay Dream,   Provence En Boite,   Dassara Ramen,   Union Grounds,   Cubana Café,   Savoia,   Arthur’s On Smith,   VIP Thai,   Zaytoons,   Etons,   The Jakewalk,   Ciro’s,   SeersuckerSmith Canteen.

The weather yesterday couldn't have been better for this year's Smith Street Funday Sunday celebration, the annual street fair, sponsored by South Brooklyn Local Development Corporation, which stretches from Union Street to Bergen Street.
The event highlights not only the small eateries and boutiques which line Smith Street, but also local arts and crafts, as well as great music.Apart from the great food, the highlight by far is Stinky's Cheese Eating Contest, which was held at 2 PM. Though quite a few contestant valiantly tried to beat the winner of years past, Will "The Champ" Millender, easily won for the sixth year in a row. He even set a record, wolfing down 16 onces of cheese in two minutes. Impressive.
