Shop Locally: Deluxa On Sackett Street

Kristen Stocks has been running DELUXA, a vintage fashion, furniture and home decor store at 187 Sackett Street for the last two months. She wrote to me to introduce herself and her boutique. I am glad she did. I am always happy to spend my money in the neighborhood and to support local merchants instead of throwing it at big chain stores. Though I haven't yet visited Deluxa, I will take a walk there this week. Hope you willl do the same.

I have wanted to share with you and the readers (if you're so inclined) that I've opened a new(ish) vintage store in Carroll Gardens, in the former Go Fish! Brooklyn location. The store is now called Deluxa, and while I originally had most of Go Fish's inventory, much of that has been sold and purged, so I'd love to reinvite people to the spot to check out the new merchandise and new price points. Its been Deluxa since October, but we are really just starting to get around now to spreading the word and reaching out to let people know we are out there, especially as a great alternative to big retailers with better style and lower prices. I've opened up the back room too, so there are now 3 whole rooms to shop in. We're a great place for a unique holiday present, and of course, as always, vintage is super duper friendly on the environment. We've got clothing for ladies, gents, and babies, great mid century modern furniture, housewares, dishware, brickabrac, records, and a small but growing new local music section. The website is deluxanyc.com, and I've also got a blog and myspace that I use fairly heavily, albeit only since the last 2 months while also opening and running my first business.

Window Shopping: Smith Street Featured Item Of The Week

Every time I have walked past Environment 337 on Smith Street in the last two weeks, I have been admiring this wonderful woven handbag displayed in the window. Today, I could no longer resist and went into the store to take a closer look at the bag. Sure enough, it looks even more beautiful up close. It is lined in a fun floral cotton print and has thin black leather straps. Pretty cool, no?

While in the store, I also spied these cute wind-up plush toys. They look so delightfully old fashioned. I think I had one when I was a child. Clapping their little cymbals together, these little guys would make a child ( or the inner child in you) truly happy.
