It has been a while since we had snow here in Carroll Gardens, so waking up to a fresh coat of fluffy white stuff blanketing everything was actually kind of nice.
These photos were taken at about 8 Am this morning, just as everyone was coming out to shovel their walkway.
If you would like to share your own snow day photos, please send them my way.

Who needs a brownstone? With the record breaking snow fall we have been having this year, maybe igloos will become the new thing here in Brooklyn . Check out this snow residence. It was spotted on Sackett Street by Reader M. who graciously allowed me to post the photos she took.
Rather professionally built, no? How much do you think it could rent for?

Reader Mary was brave enough to go up to her building's roof this morning. She took the cool photo above of the impressive snow drifts up above. I can imagine my roof looks pretty much the same.

Thanks for sending the photo, Mary.

I love snow, I truly do. But even I am getting a bit tired of it at this point.
How about you?

Getting in and out of parking spots is certainly not easy these days, what with the mounds of frozen snow still blocking many of the spaces here in Brooklyn. This driver on Fourth Avenue was stuck on a patch of ice yesterday. No matter how hard he revved the engine, the car wouldn't advance, or back up for that matter. A few passers-by didn't hesitate to lend a hand to help the driver out of his predicament, though it was beastly cold. It took a few minutes, but they were able to dislodge the car.
The driver stopped long enough to thank everybody for their help.
It was just a small little scene on a frigid day here in Brooklyn, but it was nice to witness such cooperation.

After I posted the photo of the majestic red-tailed hawk that was spotted on Carroll Street last week, reader Lorraine sent me a photograph of what appears to be a small hawk. It was taken back in September in her back yard, just a few blocks away towards the Gowanus Canal. Lorraine was wondering if this is a red-tailed hawk chick or some other, smaller raptor. Can anyone help her identify it? In any case, it is very cool to know that such incredible birds are making this area their home.

Christmas had come and gone. So had the visitors.
I did not hesitate to stay indoors all day,
only occasionally looking out the window
to see how much snow had accumulated.
I hope you are all warm and cozy on this wintry Sunday evening

He held her hand

securely in his,
helped her cross the street
and guided her to avoid the deep puddles.

"Step on the white snow" he instructed her

She giggled
as she tiptoed through the slush.

Camelia Interrupted

These bright red buds on a Camelia in Cobble Hill shimmered through a layer of ice and snow. They looked as though they were days away from opening to show themselves in all their glory. But the blizzard interrupted and delayed the blooming.
Soon enough, dear Friends, soon enough.

As promised, I took my camera around the neighborhood today to capture Carroll Gardens under a beautiful blanket of fresh snow.
Surely, this was not the terrible blizzard that weathermen had forecast. True, the snowfall here in Brooklyn was significant, but this town has seen fiercer storms.

I hope you were lucky enough to be able to stay home and enjoy a day of leisure with your loved ones.

Looking out the window,
I was taken by surprise.
The backyard were covered in snow.
I guess I had not checked the forecast...
