Gertrude must have had quite a lovely time on Montague Street back in 1905. Yes, I guess I would too. Doesn't it look cool without cars, just with public transportation? Friends, we need to bring streetcars back...The caption on this old postcard is : "Montague St. Showing Site of Old Academy of Music, Brooklyn, N.Y. That's no mistake. The first Academy was located at 176-194 Montague . The opening concert was on January 15, 1861. Unfortunately, it burnt to the ground on November 30, 1903. So when Gertrude visited our fair borough in 1905, there was a big hole where the academy once stood.
According to the street numbers, it was located between Court and Clinton Streets, present location of the apartment complex housing the Garden Of Eden store.
