Over 60 black car drivers walked off their job at NYC 2-Way International at 335 Bond Street in Gowanus late last week to protest a number of unfair practices by the executive limo service company.
On Friday afternoon, the drivers were joined in solidarity by taxi drivers of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance and of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). IAM has reached out to the limo drivers to help unionize them
According to the drivers, NYC 2-Way, whose corporate clients include Goldman Sacks, Bank of America and Ernst & Young, has raised the driver's fees by 12% overnight. In addition to taking between 22% -32% per fare, the company also collects $56 per week in 'dues' and another $130 for rental of the radio, which is used to dispatch them.
The drivers demand an immediate stop to the arbitrary increase in dues and that the limo company stop taking a cut of tolls and tips collected from riders.
They ask for a complete and independent audit of the moneys billed to the company's clients. In addition, they want no armed security or firearms at the company's base at 335 Bond Street.
