I just got an email from Screening Liberally about the movie ASPARAGUS
( A Stalk-umentary). I had not heard about it before, but it looks pretty interesting. It was directed by filmmakers Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly and has won quite a few awards at film festivals. Here is the info in case you want to attend the screening

Screening Liberally and Eating Liberally invite you to a screening of ASPARAGUS, The Movie (A Stalk-umentary), September 19th, 7:30 pm at The Tank.
For over thirty years, Oceana County Michigan has been the Asparagus Capital of the World. Now its residents and family farms take on the US War on Drugs, free trade, and a fast food nation, all to save their beloved "roots." Oceana's farmers take their fight from Senate Trade Hearings to marketing think-tanks, from the US Department of Agriculture to the mountains of Peru. One rural American community is scrambling to keep its proud identity and source of survival against impossible odds. Discover why one little vegetable matters so much. "This subtle but powerful film unveils intricate connections among community identity, family farming, national politics and international trade, while at the same time revealing that aplomb and good cheer of these indomitable, spear-struck Michinganders." - Full Frame
