The new '16 Handles' sign went up today and I am sure that you will all agree that it is a vast improvement over the bright orange sign that hung over the new frozen yogurt place originally.
That first sign generated quite a few negative comments from local residents on this blog as well as on Lost City. Many felt that the neon-bright logo was inappropriate for a brownstone neighborhood like Carroll Gardens,
When Jon Lake, Vice President of Operations for 16 Handles, heard about the controversy, he sent out an email to say that he was going to reach out to discuss different signage options. He wrote "We too agree that this sign is not in keeping with the neighborhood vibe and feel." It was taken down shortly afterwards.
He followed up with me to let me know that it would be replaced by a hunter green, unlit sign with gooseneck lamps above. On Thursday, he let me know that it would be installed today.
Sure enough, as I walked by this afternoon, a crew had just pulled up with this new version.
The installation of the lamps will probably follow shortly.

I would like to thank Jon Lake for his response. It is not every day that a company listens to the concerns of local residents. Lake explained that it is all part of 16 Handles' philosophy. " We are human. We are not perfect, but we are always trying." Most importantly, he added: "We want to bring more smiles to the community."
