Just like Red Hook, the Gowanus community has been hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Help came to residents of Gowanus Houses today from volunteers and the National Guard.
Assemblywoman Joan Millman pitched in as well.
From her office:
No doubt more help will be needed in the immediate future. If you are able, please pitch in to bring everyone's life back to normal after this catastrophe.
Assemblywoman Joan Millman pitched in as well.
From her office:
"Four buildings at the NYC Housing Authority’s Gowanus Houses have been without power, heat and hot water since Monday. Assemblywoman Joan Millman has been working around the clock with Con Edison, the city and the state to get the power restored. Today she called in the National Guard to bring in food and water for residents. Once the word spread that residents at the Houses needed help, volunteers pitched in in a beautiful way helping members from Families United for Racial and Economic Equality (FUREE) and the Red Hook Initiative distribute the food as well as flashlights, batteries and candles."And here is a photo taken of the relief effort by friend Cynthia Simmons who reports that "the concern seems to be for elderly residents who might need prescriptions filled."
