299 Warren Street

Oh say, what is that ugly thing on top of this lovely old carriage house?
299 Warren Street was once the home to Ytournel, a sweet little neighborhood bistro/take-out/grocery store that served authentic French food. The owners of the restaurant had lovingly restored the building and its interior. The exposed bricks and beams created a wonderful backdrop and the cosy decor transported you straight to Provence.
That was back in 2000. Ytournel never really took off unfortunately, though Eric Asimov of the New York Times had given it a very good review. When the bistro closed, the building was sold. Obviously, the new owner had a different vision for the old building. The result of the latest renovation? A very intrusive, very strange addition that robs this little brick beauty of any charm it once possessed.
Sad!
