I always loved the name of this Chinese restaurant. The food? Well, not so much. 'Me and My Egg Roll' has been at the same location for all of the twenty-four years I have been living in the neighborhood. It was only closed for a few months a couple of years ago, when the side wall of the building was rebuilt.) I am not too fussy when it comes to food. I have eaten in some funky places in some exotic locales, but the last New York City Health Report for this restaurant made me a bit ill . The average health violation for a restaurant in the city is 16 points. Well, at its last inspection on January 8, 2009, Me and My Egg Roll accumulated 81 points. Here is an excerpt from the report.
Facility not vermin proof.
Harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist.
Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
Evidence of roaches or live roaches present in facility's food and/or non-food areas.
Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced last weekend that the city is updating its restaurant inspection system in an effort to improve sanitary conditions and give consumers more information.Customers will soon be able to tell what grade any of the city’s 25,000 restaurants received in their most recent health inspection simply by glancing at a sign posted in the window or doorway.
One hopes that 'Me And My Egg Roll' will clean up its act before then
