My head is spinning. Between the the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Public Place site and the New York City Planning Commission's hearing on the Toll Brothers Rezoning along the Gowanus Canal, it is all getting a bit confusing. These are two separate developments, but they are just a few feet away from each other. They also both border the very toxic and polluted waterway. In addition, the two projects will alter our neighborhood forever. Tomorrow, Saturday January 17th, is the deadline for writing in to City Planning Chair Amanda Burden regarding the Toll Brothers' development .
I urge everyone to send a letter by TOMORROW to voice their opinion. Ms. Burden has said on more than one occasion that she will take the feelings of the community into account. This is our chance to be involved in the planning of our neighborhood.
Please send your letter to:
Chair Amanda M. Burden
City Planning Commission

If you have no time to send your comment today, you can sign the petition to:
"Defend The Gowanus . (No Love Canal Here)"
The petition will be sent to Amanda Burden by Kevin Duffy, the Carroll Gardens resident who has been incredibly vocal and involved on this issue.
This is an email from Kevin:
Personally, I see this petition as a strong testament by individuals who care enough to contribute their signature, support and comments on environmental safety in our communities. I encourage everyone to read these comments and you will be come away with a renewed optimism about the strength of community. Each comment on this document reflects a personal voice in harmony with all the others. I hope the spirit of community will not be lost on our elected officials.
It has been a long path for many who have given so much with so little. I hope this document can only serve to recognize the effort of those individuals who work tirelessly to defend Gowanus.
