Pardon Me For Asking, But What Was The Emergency On Court Street On Monday Afternoon?

Friend and Reader S. just sent me an email wondering if I knew what happening on Court Street on Monday afternoon. She writes:

"Any idea what happened on Court Street around 5:15 pm this afternoon, really wild smoke, tons of fire trucks, ambulances, etc."

I was in Manhattan most of the day, so I missed it. Can anyone fill us in?
