On Sunday, September 27th, get ready for the Turkic-Balkan Park Festival in Brooklyn Prospect Park at the Nethermead field. The whole day event will include live stage performances of the Ottoman Janissary Band, Whirling Dervishes, Turkic & Balkan Folklore, Bazaar booths, Turkish cuisine; cultural and educational exhibitions and entertainment for kids. That sounds good, right?

Here is more info from Borough President Marty Markowitz's office:

On Sunday, September 27, the nation’s largest Turkish festival, “Turkish Days in New York,” will host the Turkic & Balkan Park Festival at Nethermead in Prospect Park (10am – 6pm) to kick off the eight-day celebration. The festival, organized by the Turkish Cultural Center New York and supported by the Turkish-American Business Improvement and Development Council, is designed to showcase the Anatolian Civilizations, Turkic and Balkan cultures and traditions, and modern Turkey to all New Yorkers. Other events will be held in midtown Manhattan, Times Square, the New York Film Academy and Grand Central Terminal.

“Brooklyn may be the proud ‘Turkish Capital of the USA,’ but everyone is a little Turkish and has been greatly enriched by the contributions of Turkish Americans to all aspects of our society—including business, art, music, education and food,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “The Turkish people are celebrated around the world as ‘hosts extraordinaire,’ so we are thrilled to return the favor and kick off the Turkish Days in New York festival in our beautiful Prospect Park.”
