Our Councilman, Bill deBlasio, did it again! He showed up an hour late for the Carroll Gardens Forum on Landmarking,
only one of the most important meetings about the neighborhood's future in recent memory. He gave a little speech and then left half an hour later. Granted, his right-hand-man, Tom Gray, was there from the beginning, but Mr.DeBlasio seems to have a real problem with showing up on time. As he walked through the auditorium of P.S.58 last night, members of the audience exchanged glances and rolled their eyes. Somebody in the crowd whispered "Amazing," in pure disbelief that he managed yet again to miss the beginning of a meeting. After all, Assemblywoman Joan Millman was in her seat at exactly 6:30 PM.
When our Councilman left half an hour later, after making a gallant statement about his full support for landmarking, one of C.O.R.D.'s more outspoken members followed him outside. Inside the audience, one could hear some faint discussion coming from the hallway. A few minutes later, Bill DeBlasio walked back in to collect his assistant.
It was a sweet moment. Bill deBlasio was finally being confronted and scolded about his lack of response to Carroll Gardens. And deservedly so. He absolutely dropped the ball regarding 360 Smith Street, going for theatrics and press exposure rather than giving our community some clear answers. It was just a matter of time before he needed to justify himself. So, good for C.O.R.D. As I was walking out, I overheard that the group was going to finally meet with the Councilman for a sit down meeting, a meeting that he had promised them MONTHS ago.
Way to go, Bill DeBlahblah, way to go!
