Until October 2009, #254 Court Street was the home of the Tea Lounge, a coffee and tea house with a living room feel, which attracted stroller moms and those in the neighborhood who seem to have an unlimited amount of time to sit around and browse the internet on a MAC.
The Court Street Tea Lounge, which opened in 2006, never did very well at that location, according to the business' owner Jonathan Spiel, who said that “there just wasn’t enough business in the community. It was poor even before the economy.”
Before it became the Tea Lounge, the space was the home of Blue Star, a sea food restaurant and before that, of Kalio, which offered a contemporary/fusion cuisine. I seem to remember that Kalio had a great hazelnut ice-cream, hot fudge dessert.
It would seem that Vespa Property Groups has found a new tenant for the commercial space. A big, red "Rented" sign has been hanging in the window since shortly before Christmas.
No word yet what sort of business will open up next at that address.
Brooks over at Lost City hopes that it will not be another nail place. I rather hope it's not going to be another bar.
