Gowanus Canal Update:

As was announced at the Environmental Protection Agency's public meeting on December 3rd, 2009 regarding the Gowanus Canal, the agency will be undertaking scientific field work in the next few months.

As part of that work, a
bathymetric study was conducted by an E.P.A. sub-contractor on January 5th and 6th January 2010 using two different boats, one small, one large. (Some preliminary work, such as setting gauges from on-land locations, was done on January 4th.)

Just for your information, bathymetry is the study of underwater depth which will give scientists an idea of the underwater terrain of the Gowanus canal.

Don't worry! I had to look up the word, too.
